A quick check of smoke alarms led to free pizza for a few Sequim households in recognition of Fire Prevention Week Oct. 5-11.
For two hours on Wednesday, Oct. 8, Clallam County Fire District 3 sent career and volunteer firefighters/EMTs and Sparky the Fire Dog with Sequim Domino’s delivery drivers to homes where homeowners gave the okay for firefighters to check their smoke alarms.
If the alarms worked, then customers would receive their order for free. If alarms didn’t work, then staff would replace batteries or install new smoke alarms for free donated by Domino’s, Ace Hardware, and the fire district’s Volunteer Association.
Of the homes visited, all had functioning smoke alarms, said Battalion Chief Chris Turner.
