De Santis commits to Coastal Carolina

Chatham’s Gino De Santis has committed to the Coastal Carolina University baseball team for the 2027-28 season.

The 16-year-old catcher is a Grade 11 student at John McGregor secondary school and plays for the Great Lakes Canadians.

“Huge thanks to coaches, family and friends, who have helped me get to where I am now,” he wrote on social media. “Thank you to GLC and Coastal coaching staff for believing in me.”

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers were NCAA Division 1 finalists last season. The Sun Belt Conference champions led the NCAA with a school-record 56 wins.

De Santis is third in Prep Baseball Ontario’s Class of 2027 rankings.

He has played for Baseball Canada’s junior national team at several events.
