FRANKFORT, Ky. (WYMT) - Gov. Andy Beshear announced on Wednesday that Team Kentucky would send more than $118.2 million to six counties to buy out properties from willing and voluntary Kentuckians in flood-prone areas.

The funding is in response to flooding that occurred earlier this year.

Five of those counties are in Eastern Kentucky: Floyd, Knott, Letcher, Perry, and Pike.

In a statement, the governor said no one should have to stay in a flood-prone area simply because it is too expensive to move.

According to officials with the governor’s office, approximately 600 families were impacted by flooding.
