SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) - South Hadley has implemented a new ban on the sale of nicotine and tobacco products to individuals born on or after January 1, 2005, following a unanimous vote by the town's Board of Health.

The resolution, known as the Nicotine-Free Generation Resolution, aims to curb youth nicotine addiction by restricting the sale and distribution of these products to future generations. Retailers who fail to comply with the new regulation could face fines or the loss of their store permits.

"The intent of this regulation is to limit sales to youth, so the date that we chose is the date that the next member of that generation would turn 21," said Karen Walsh, Chair of the South Hadley Board of Health.
