SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — An active search is underway for an inmate who escaped his work detail in Spalding County on Wednesday afternoon, according to the sheriff.

Spalding County Sheriff Darrell Dix said that Justin Scott Woodruff walked away from his work detail around 3:15 p.m. and is now wanted for escaping. Dix said that he does not believe that Woodruff is in the Spalding County or Griffin area anymore.

“This is the first time in over 15 years that this has happened to us," Dix said. "When he is caught it will be a memorable experience for him, whoever picked him up, and whoever (sic) he is with. I hope his time on the run will be worth it for him and them.”
