Midlands residents can literally take steps to combat breast cancer and domestic violence at the Columbia Veterans Administration's annual Pink & Purple Walk on Friday, Oct. 17. The Columbia VA Healthcare System created the one-mile walk to help raise awareness of Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence Awareness months, both recognized in October.

The walk begins at 11 a.m. at the Dorn VAMC Wellness Track, located at 6439 Garners Ferry Rd., in Columbia.

Individuals participating in the walk, which is free and open to the public, are encouraged to dress up in their best pink and purple outfits, and there will be a "Best Dressed Contest" for those who show their spirit creatively.
