Hyderabad: In a setback to Telangana government, the Supreme Court has dismissed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) challenging the High Court’s stay on Go 9, which provided 42% reservation to Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections, tv9 telugu reported.

A bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta heard arguments from both sides and suggested that local body elections should be held as per old reservations and that reservations should not exceed 50 percent.

Telangana government went to the apex court after the high court stayed the implementation of government order (GO) number 9, enhancing the BC reservation from 25 percent to 42 percent.

After the suspension of the order, Telangana State Election Commission had stopped the process of conducting local body elections,
