PORTLAND, Ore. — Portlanders love the city's parks and natural areas, but the future of those 11,000 acres increasingly seems to be in jeopardy. And like so many other of the city's problems, it all comes down to a mix of money and management.

An audit released this week from the office of Portland City Auditor Simone Rede digs into the Portland Parks and Recreation infrastructure crisis. As of September of last year, the bureau reported that 86% of its assets were in poor or very bad condition — everything from restrooms to playgrounds and community centers.
