PORTLAND, Oregon — In North Portland's Kenton neighborhood, Chuk Barber helps passersby appreciate every day with his art. Using dry erase markers, he creates a daily illustration depicting whatever national day it is on a whiteboard in front of his house.

"They specifically come by here to see what day it is on the board, so it makes me feel good," said Barber. "Today is National Boss Day," chuckled Barber, pointing to a fresh drawing of the title character from "Boss Baby."

"He looks like a tough boss," observed Barber's neighbor, Chris Lambert, who came outside to check the board. "Gives people a chance to pause, make a comment, make a conversation," he said.

Wednesday was National Grouch Day.

"Who's the most famous grouch you know?" asked Barber, holding up a second whiteboard feat
