COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) - Two Lee County sheriff’s deputies rescued a 16-year-old girl from a house fire Monday afternoon after she collapsed from smoke inhalation while trying to extinguish flames in her home.

The family has requested that they remain anonymous

The teen was cooking an afternoon meal around 4 p.m. when she went to the restroom and returned to find the kitchen on fire, according to her mother.

“She said she was on the phone with the police at the time of the fire while she was trying to put it out and once it got too much smoke because she has asthma she made it as far as to the living room floor and passed out,” the mother said.
