How much trash does a sold-out Mariners crowd produce? A lot.
Let’s do some quick math. At full capacity, T-Mobile Park can hold nearly 48,000 people and Wednesday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays was expected to generate about 200,000 individual pieces of trash, said Dave Wilke, senior director of facilities with the stadium.
Technically “trash” isn’t really the right word. Some of it’s recycling, some is compostable, some does make its way into the landfill, but we’ll get into that later.
That simple breakdown means on average every person at the ballgame will leave behind at least four pieces of garbage. We’re talking hot dog “boats,” nacho containers, cups, cans and more.
In all, Wilke said T-Mobile park anticipates about 10 tons of waste per sold-out game, more than one-third
