The new Victory Field lived up to its name on Thursday night.

The Barrington High School girls soccer team christened the new synthetic turf athletic field with a victory over Cumberland. Thursday night’s game marked the first game ever on a synthetic turf field in Barrington.

Work on the new field started the day after the graduation ceremony last June and continued through the summer months. The contractor, Green Acres Landscaping, told officials that the new Victory Field would be ready for games by the end of September or beginning of October. Some recent wet weather forced Barrington High School Director of Athletics George Finn to postpone a few games, including a field hockey game that had been scheduled for earlier this week.
