New details have emerged about a shocking random stabbing attack on Little Bourke Street that left an innocent woman hospitalised with a punctured lung.

It’s since emerged that police had already been looking for the alleged attacker, identified as 32-year-old Lauren Darul, after she failed to show up for a mental health appointment and was missing from the state-run homeless shelter she was staying at.

The 36-year-old victim, Wan Lai, was walking to work when she was stabbed in the chest on October 2.

Strangers rushed to help, cradling her on the footpath before police arrived.

The alleged attacker had already fled the scene, still carrying the knife.

The victim spent three days in hospital with a collapsed lung.

Police have now charged Darul over the attack.
