Socialite Lady Annabel Goldsmith has passed away at the age of 91, it has been confirmed.

Lady Annabel, who had links to the Royal Family and was a close confidante of the late Princess Diana, was a significant figure during the swinging sixties, reports the Mirror .

Her husband Mark Birley named a popular Mayfair nightclub, Annabel's, after her in 1963. It remains one of London's most glamorous nightspots to this day.

Speaking about the nightclub bearing her name, she once said: "The dance floor was one of the hottest six-foot-square pieces of ground in London. I don't remember seeing it empty.
