Thousands showed up with signs, flags and animal costumes as a No Kings rally got underway midday on Saturday, Oct. 18, in Salem.

The gathering appeared to be larger than the first No Kings rally, held at the same location on June 14, 2025.

Organizers estimated that by shortly after the announced start time of noon, some 6,000 people had joined in.

The Salem Police Department not long after announced it was closing Northeast Summer Street as a result.

At the same time, petitioners seeking to recall Gov. Tina Kotek planned their own rally at the Capitol. They expected caravans to arrive from several staging locations around the state.
