The Nov. 4 Clayton County special election/municipal general election includes two new homestead exemptions.
The homestead exemption is a legal provision that reduces property taxes and offers certain protections to a homeowner’s primary residence.
The referendums on the Nov. 4 ballot include one for the city of College Park and one for Clayton County.

Clayton County
The Clayton County referendum states that it will provide a homestead exemption from Clayton County ad valorem taxes for disabled veterans, senior citizens , unremarried surviving spouses of a peace officer or firefighter who is killed in the line of duty and 100% disabled residents.
If approved, the referendum will take effect on Jan. 1, 2026 and it would end on Dec. 31, 2030.
