1925: Driver Richards, coming down the new mountain pipeline road Sunday afternoon with his 4-ton truck, saw he was going into the ditch next to the bank, the soft dirt on the side having begun to give away. He yelled for the men working in the ditch to jump out and away from there. They all did, but Luis Torrez. Luis would not respond to the first, the second, nor the third yell Richards gave, each louder than the last. So when the head of the car did plunge against the bank, there was Torrez right between it and the dirt. He was squeezed something awful, the pressure not being lessened any by the dirt behind him being frozen. Torrez was brought to Mercy hospital.
