BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WFSB) - A child is in critical condition after being struck by a car on Sunday afternoon in Bridgeport, according to police.

The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. near Madison Ave. and Salem St.

Police said the child was alert and conscious at the scene. They were hospitalized in critical, but stable condition, authorities said.

The driver remained on scene for the investigation.

No further information was released.
