Jesús Montero, a former catcher for the Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees, has died at the age of 35 after being involved in a motorcycle crash two weeks ago in Venezuela.
The Yankees and the Mariners confirmed Montero’s death Sunday. Montero played one season (2011) with the Yankees, appearing in only 18 games, and four seasons with the Mariners.
The former catcher’s motorcycle reportedly crashed into a truck on Oct. 4 and he had been hospitalized ever since in critical condition. He was unable to recover from multiple injuries, authorities said.
