A Gold Coast man has been charged after being accused of selling counterfeit copies of Cartier and other high-end jewellery and raking in $100,000.

The items were seized in a search warrant in December 2023 of a Burleigh Heads store, where police found bracelets, rings, gold bullion and cash in a safe.

Investigations continued after police were unable to verify their legitimacy.

It later emerged they were forgeries allegedly presented as Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels pieces.

Despite being sold at the store for $100,000, the actual value of the items was only $28,000 overall.

The man in his 40s has now been charged with 22 counts of possessing or exposing for sale goods with false trademarks.

This penalty carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment, or a fine of $181,500.
