With two games left and a spot in the Big Ten Tournament at play, the Michigan women’s soccer team could seldom afford to lose to Rutgers.

But on a windy afternoon in Piscataway, disaster struck for the Wolverines. The Scarlet Knights (4-7-4 overall, 2-7-1 Big Ten), winless for nearly a month, stunned Michigan (6-8-3, 3-4-3) on its senior night, winning 3-1. The defeat puts the Wolverines in a precarious position.

Coming off a seven-goal thriller three days prior, Michigan seemed to be feeling the effects from their previous bout. The Wolverines’ offense looked slow from the start, putting minimal pressure on the Scarlet Knights’ goal and allowing the hosts to dominate possession.
