The Michigan volleyball team’s loss in the first set wasn’t just a hiccup or setback that it was hoping to shake off, it was an omen for imminent doom. After a lackluster first set, the Wolverines were unable to bounce back as No. 1 Nebraska swept them in front of a sold-out Crisler Center.
Despite Michigan having early momentum from a kill and service ace from sophomore outside hitter Ella Demetrician, winning four of the first five points in the set and giving the Wolverines a 4-1 lead that they couldn’t make it last. The Cornhuskers slowly narrowed the gap thanks to a kill and two errors by Michigan, closing the Wolverines’ lead to 5-4. Before they knew it, the set score was tied at seven and any early control they had quickly slipped away as momentum began to tilt in Nebraska’s favor.
