CHARDON, Ohio — Nearly a year after a crash destroyed a piece of Geauga County history, Farley’s Country Store is ready to reopen its doors.

In late 2024, a Geauga County Sheriff’s deputy responding to a call failed to yield, striking another vehicle. Both cars slammed into the century-old store .

Carol Yapel and her husband, Tim, were inside at the time, watching TV upstairs.

“We just looked at each other and said, ‘That was a big hit.’ But the thing was, it kept going,” said Yapel. “We heard another hit, which would have been the barrier in the front, and then the third hit shook the building.”

Though both escaped unharmed, their lives changed in an instant.
