TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of teen deaths in the country, according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA). But, many car accidents are avoidable, including those involving teenage drivers.

Advocates are urging parents and others to encourage the young drivers in their families to make the right decisions.

The NHTSA reported 2,600 people were killed in crashes involving teenagers in 2023. That same year, more than 170,000 people were injured in crashes involving that age group.

Inexperience driving is a major factor of those crashes as teens don’t have the experience to see and avoid dangerous situations.
