LANSING, Iowa — The Iowa and Wisconsin Departments of Transportation are set to close the Iowa 9/WIS 82 Mississippi River bridge, also known as the Black Hawk Bridge, on Monday.

This closure is part of the ongoing construction of a new bridge expected to open in the spring of 2027.

To assist travelers during the closure, a free car ferry service will begin in early November. Iowa DOT Director Scott Marler expressed gratitude for the swift approvals from federal and state agencies, including the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and the city of Lansing, which enabled the setup of the ferry service.
