LANSING, Wis. (WXOW – The Black Hawk Bridge in Lansing, Iowa officially closed Monday morning, marking a major step toward the new Mississippi River crossing between Iowa and Wisconsin.

Officials say the 94-year-old bridge shut down around 7:00 a.m.

Crews are now beginning preparation work that will allow them to safely demolish the existing structure and continue building the new bridge, expected to open in 2027.

They're also finishing preparations for the car ferry, building the landings and completing nearby roadways.
