Hamilton police have arrested a 31-year-old man after an ambulance was destroyed in an arson at Hamilton General Hospital early Sunday morning.
Emergency services were called to the hospital at Victoria Avenue North and Barton Street East around 6 a.m. Oct. 19.
After off-loading a patient in the hospital, paramedics returned to find the ambulance engulfed in flames, police said.
Based on surveillance video and witness accounts, police said a lone suspect tossed an accelerant into the ambulance and then fled on foot.
A 31-year-old suspect was arrested at a nearby bus stop.
The man, of no-fixed-address, is charged with the arson, disregard for human life and three counts of fail to comply with a probation order.
No one was in the ambulance at the time of the fire.
