WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - The Wichita City Council on Tuesday will consider spending millions for new vehicles and equipment for the Wichita Police Department.

The department is asking for $3.2 million to replace aging vehicles used by SWAT, the bomb unit and others that need more and more maintenance.

Funding for the replacements was worked in the Capital Improvement Program but has to initiated by the council.

Also at Tuesday's meeting, the WPD will request $980,000 to replace protective equipment like body armor and shields.
