MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A battalion chief for the Berea Fire Department was arrested on Friday and charged with third-degree rape and third-degree sexual abuse of a minor, according to a warrant of arrest.

The warrant states that 40-year-old Jonathan Kerns is being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond in the Madison County Detention Center.

The alleged abuse began when the victim was 11 years old and escalated over time, according to the warrant.
