AUSTIN, Minn. — The City of Austin Culture and Arts Commission, in collaboration with Austin Utilities, is inviting Mower County youth to submit their artwork for a public art project on utility boxes.

The initiative is aimed at showcasing young artists and reducing graffiti.

“Research by the Project for Public Spaces shows that covering frequently-tagged surfaces with high quality art created by local artists can help deter future graffiti,” said Holly Wallace, Planning and Zoning Administrator. “The Commission hopes to beautify Austin with this project.”

A jury will select the artwork, and chosen artists will receive a cash award. Detailed submission guidelines are available at the Austin Area Arts website.
