ST. PAUL, Minn. — Gov. Tim Walz and the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) have announced a new Tribal-state cannabis compact with the Prairie Island Indian Community.
"This milestone underscores our ongoing commitment to the people of Minnesota and Tribal Nations,” said Eric Taubel, OCM Executive Director. The compact allows state-licensed cannabis businesses to partner with the Prairie Island Indian Community, boosting product supply while respecting the Tribe's sovereignty.
The state Legislature directed the governor to create cannabis compacts with Tribal Nations to enhance public health, safety, and market regulation. These agreements prioritize product testing and consistency across Minnesota's cannabis market.
