LEXINGTON, N.C. — A hired caregiver has been arrested for allegedly stealing more than $55,000 in jewelry from an elderly client over a three-month period, according to the Cornelius Police Department.

Police reported that between May 9 and Aug. 8, 2025, the victim’s jewelry, including a wedding ring, high school class ring, and pieces of her late husband’s collection, was taken. Detectives determined that Kathryn “Katy” Arlene Actis, also known as Kathryn Arlene Skiles, stole the items and sold them to an out-of-state pawn shop.

Investigators said the pawn shop had melted the stolen jewelry for gold scrap before the victim noticed it missing.

Actis was charged with exploitation of an elder adult and felony larceny. She was arrested and taken to the Davidson County Jail in Lexington, N
