LINCOLN CITY, Ore — A woman has died after she was caught in a sneaker wave and pulled out to sea near Siletz Bay, North Lincoln Fire & Rescue (NLFR) confirmed .
Rescuers were called to the beach around 3:40 p.m. on Sunday for reports that a person was caught in a strong current and being pulled out to sea.
Two NLFR jet skis were launched to search for the person, and the U.S. Coast Guard responded with lifeboats and a helicopter to help. Lincoln City police used a drone to aid in the search efforts.
The woman, later identified as 43-year-old Caroline Moses of Corvallis, was found around 4 miles south from where she was swept out, and pronounced dead around 5:26 p.m. the same day.
