SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO)-- With upcoming changes to both math standards and ACT testing for the state, South Dakota Secretary of Education Joseph Graves talked about some of the changes they are planning on making for the next school year.
Graves said they plan on replacing the smarter balance test for juniors with the American College Test (ACT).
"The Smarter Balanced Assessment is our accountability measure in grades 3 through 8 and 11 currently. There was a desire to try to do a little less testing, which I think actually makes sense," Graves told KELOLAND News. "We're looking at the ACT as replacing the 11th grade test, and then that would apply to all South Dakota juniors."
The ACT is a standardized test used for college admissions and scholarship decisions across the United States
