WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Wichita City Council will consider changes to city ordinances Tuesday that would better protect tenants.

Wichita City Councilman Brandon Johnson says the ordinances focus on creating more rights for tenants and holding bad property owners accountable. But a group of property managers is pushing back against changes they fear will negatively affect property rights in Wichita.

Cedar Mills Property Management owner Nela Bayouth understands there’s a problem with hazardous properties in Wichita, but said she would like more clarity on certain points and more time for open discussion with the community.

“I don’t dispute that, and I do think there needs to be a resolution for those items,” Bayouth said.
