HALE COUNTY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A west Alabama school family is hurting over the loss of one student, while another student is being treated for critical injuries.

Two Hale County High School students were involved in two separate accidents over the weekend.

Hale County High School leaders say the student who died was 16-year-old Slade Holcomb.

A profound sense of sadness greeted Hale County High students Monday morning, Oct. 20, the start of homecoming week.

Hale County Middle School Assistant Principal Katie Andoe remembers Holcomb all too well.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) says Holcomb was struck by a pickup truck around 6:40 p.m. on Sunday night, Oct. 19.
