Alachua County man charged after allegedly trying to hit child with car

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - A gainesville man is accused of trying to run over an 11-year-old boy after the boy offered to mow his lawn.

Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies say the child walked up to Brian Zoerheide, 69, on Saturday afternoon, and Zoerheide started yelling and cursing at the boy.

Officials say Zoerheide started following the victim in his car and tried running him over.

Witnesses intervened and safely took the boy home.

Zoerheide posted his $100,000 bond on Sunday.
