OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) — The Ocala International Airport will receive more than $3 million in improvements to its apron after the city awarded a construction contract Tuesday.

The city previously approved the improvements to address aging asphalt on the airport’s apron. Airport Director Matt Grow said the current surface is 8 inches thick of about 15-year-old asphalt, and he can see dents in it.

“We’ve seen an increase in our traffic on the airport, we’ve seen a change in our fleet mix of aircraft, we’re seeing a lot more heavier jets coming in,” Grow said.
