HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- The Connecticut Department of Transportation is celebrating a significant safety milestone -- 200 wrong-way detection systems have been installed on the state's highways.
When a driver tries to get on the highway going the wrong way at a spot with one of these systems, bright lights will flash and an alert will be sent to authorities.
"Connecticut Department of Transportation has really led the way with out wrong-way detection program," said CTDOT spokesperson Eva Zymaris. "We have the largest program in the country."
In the last two years, these wrong-way detections systems have alerted around 700 drivers going the wrong way, including 10 this past weekend.
