UNI head coach Ben Jacobson says his team’s top players have set an example to not transfer away

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KCRG) - In 2025, college basketball rosters are never set in stone from year to year.

But even with thousands of players jumping into the transfer portal every year, Northern Iowa is returning nearly 70 percent of its teams minutes from last year.

It’s one of the biggest reasons UNI was ranked second in the preseason MVC Poll.

“We return seven guys that played for us and 11 total players, for me I tie that a lot to the decision and the leadership of Tytan Anderson, Jacob Hutson and Trey Campbell a year ago,” said Jacobson.

The head coach says several of his players have decided to not go into the transfer portal despite being offered more money.
