A dog is safe and recovering after a disturbing case of alleged abuse that triggered public outrage and prompted an urgent investigation in South Pierce County.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said received a video over the weekend showing a man violently kneeing a dog and punching its head. It was captured on a neighbor’s Ring doorbell camera.

“We’re thankful for everyone that reported this case,” said Deputy Carly Cappetto, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.

The man seen in the footage is identified by deputies as the ex-boyfriend of the dog’s owner. The dog — a corgi named Doc — is shown being picked up and struck with a knee. The video includes the dog yelping in pain twice.
