It’s been said the happiest — and saddest — day is when a person surpasses a parent.
That happened in Saturday’s football game when Timmy Chang’s Hawaii Warriors defeated Jay Norvell’s Colorado State Rams at Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins, Colo.
While the head coaches refer to each other as a “brother,” when it comes to football matters, Chang considers Norvell as a father figure.
In 2017, Norvell, who was Nevada’s head football coach at the time, hired Chang as a receivers coach. It was the first Division I coaching job for the former record-setting quarterback who had not previously coached receivers.
Five years and four bowl appearances later, Norvell was hired as Colorado State’s head coach. Chang, who was coaching the Wolf Pack’s tight ends, agreed to accompany Norvell in the move
