(NEXSTAR) – While the price of owning a home continues to soar across the country, many are looking to rent in hopes of just finding an affordable place to have a roof over their heads.

The problem is, rental prices for apartments are rising as well, particularly in larger markets.

A new report from Zillow has found that it has become extremely difficult to find apartments that cost less than $1,000 per month in the 100 largest cities in the U.S.

In fact, among these 100 cities, only 13 have more than a third of their available apartments listed as under $1,000 per month, according to Zillow.

For the most part, living in the Midwest or the South offers the best chance at finding an affordable apartment in a major city.
