BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) - A North Dakota highway safety initiative designed to prevent deadly wrong-way crashes has earned national recognition as one of 12 finalists in the 2025 America’s Transportation Awards competition.
Spearheaded by the North Dakota Department of Transportation, the Wrong-Way Detection Project uses advanced camera-based technology to instantly identify vehicles traveling in the wrong direction. Once detected, alerts are sent to law enforcement and traffic management centers, flashing lights activate to prompt the driver to stop or turn around, and dynamic message signs warn oncoming traffic of the danger ahead.
