BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) - Law enforcement agencies across North Dakota issued 665 citations during the September “Put the Phone Away or Pay” campaign, part of a statewide initiative to reduce distracted driving and promote safer roads.

Of those citations, 367 were issued for distracted driving — a behavior that claimed 3,275 lives nationwide in 2023, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). There were also 112 speeding tickets, 79 citations for other traffic violations such as disobeying traffic signals or equipment issues, 35 for seat belt violations, and 12 issued for driving with a suspended or revoked license. Two arrests were also made for driving under the influence, and two for drug-related offenses.
