LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Overcrowding at Echo Trail Middle School has Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) proposing to rezone the two year old school and move nearly 100 kids to Crosby Middle School. A process the district says was started 18 months ago.

Echo Trail, which opened in 2023, is already operating at over 100 percent capacity and is expected to reach 133 percent by 2027 due to growing numbers of sixth graders.

The district said Crosby Middle, on the other hand, is at 76 percent capacity.

JCPS has proposed a boundary adjustment as the solution.

If the plan passes, the area closest to the Gene Snyder freeway will be reassigned to Crosby Middle School.

The proposed plan would only impact students who are new to the area and incoming sixth graders, like current Stopher Elementar
