ROCKFORD, Ill. — A local woman won big from a lottery ticket on Tuesday.

The anonymous winner, nicknamed "Jessie", won the $500,000 top prize from a $10 scratch-off ticket. She bought the ticket at the Walmart at 3849 Northridge Drive.

Jessie said she was just leaving the Walmart when she bought the ticket.

"I was in a hurry, so I just scratched the barcode on the ticket and scanned it at the machine," she said. "You wouldn’t believe how big my eyes got when '$500,000' popped up on the screen!"

Jessie said she thought the number was displaying how much she could have won, not what she had actually won. “I couldn’t believe it! I even asked the clerk to double check, but told her, 'Don’t tell anyone!'"

Jessie said she then ran to her car and called her husband.
