The Colorado Avalanche (5-0-1) face the Utah Mammoth (4-2-0) Tuesday in a Central Division clash. Puck drop from Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, is set for 10 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's NHL odds around the Avalanche vs. Mammoth odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.
Season series: Avs lead 1-0 after 2-1 win Oct. 9
The Avs have yet to suit up their starter Mackenzie Blackwood between the pipes due to a lower-body injury, and they have yet to lose in regulation. C Nathan MacKinnon (6 goals, 4 assists) and RW Martin Necas (4 goals, 6 assists) each have 10 points in 6 games. LW Artturi Lehkonen and D Cale Makar each have 7 points. That top line of Lehkonen-MacKinnon-Necas is possiby the best in the league right now. The Avalanche beat the Boston Bruins as -251 favorites Saturday 4-1. MacKinnon had 2 goals in that one.
It's hard to see "Mammoth" and not think of Wolfgang Van Halen's band. Well, the hockey club, has played its own iteration of Eruption on opponents' guitar necks, winning 3 straight. The latest was a 3-2 victory over the Boston Bruins Sunday as -210 favorites. C Logan Cooley (2), RW Clayton Keller (2) and RW Dylan Guenther (3) each had tallies in that one. Utah is getting production in predictable places as 5 players have 2+ goals, and there's a dropoff from there.

Avalanche at Mammoth projected goalies
Scott Wedgewood (5-0-1, 1.48 GAA, .938 SV%) vs. Karel Vejmelka (3-1-0, 2.00 GAA, .912 SV%)
Wedgewood has had a heavy workload thus far, and the Avs could opt for Trent Miner in this one. He has just 1 NHL start in his career. I would think they'd continue to go with Wedgewood here in a divisional game, and Blackwood is out for this one, but appears close to returning. He could take one of the back-to-back games this weekend. Wedgewood had light work Saturday against Boston, stopping 13 of 14. He stopped 32 of 33 against Utah earlier this month in a 2-1 win.
Vejmelka stopped 18 of 21 in a 6-3 win over San Jose Friday. He has been steady thus far, with those 3 goals the most he has allowed in 4 starts. He stopped 25 of 27 against the Avs in the 2-1 loss Oct. 9.

Avalanche at Mammoth picks and predictions
Prediction
Mammoth 3, Avalanche 2
Moneyline
The Mammoth have yet to lose in their new building, and they played the Avs hard in their second game of the season. It was 1-1 til MacKinnon scored on the PP in the third, and that was all she wrote. They'll have to adjust and stay out of the box, but I like the MAMMOTH (+125) here as the Avs are due for some regression.
Puck line/Against the spread
PASS. We're taking the value on the ML.
Over/Under
Give me the UNDER 6 (-110). Both teams are getting great goaltending. The Avs have cashed 3 straight Unders, and the Mammoth have had just 1 Over all season.
