A jury convicted a 21-year-old man of first-degree murder in the killing of a teenage boy in Homewood in 2022.
Because Shaun Scott was under 18 when he shot and killed 15-year-old Dayvon Vickers, he will not face Pennsylvania’s mandatory first-degree murder sentence of life without parole; rather, because he was 17 in March 2022, the mandatory minimum sentence he faces is 35 years.
Sentencing is set for Jan. 15. The verdict was delivered Monday.
Dayvon was riding his minibike around Homewood early in the evening on March 30, 2022. Cameras captured him riding up and down several streets — the same cameras that showed Scott and another man walking throughout the neighborhood around the same time.
Those cameras also captured the deadly shooting.
