SKOWHEGAN, Maine — A Skowhegan Area High School senior is part of the winning culture in its field hockey program and is just as impressive on the track.

Grace Mayo is viewed as a team leader, standout competitor, and a student who's in the top 10 percent of her class.

"She kind of epitomizes what I think a student athlete should be," Athletic Director Nick Wallace said.

During her final season as a River Hawk, she is taking her turn to be the leader she once looked up to when she was a freshman.

"I hope that they want to be just like me, in a sense, because when I was a freshman, I looked at my seniors, and I was like, 'Oh my gosh, I can't wait to be like them one day,'" Mayo said.
